Meaning of Azhan - Islamic Call to prayer

When i was kid we used to live close to Mosque and i used to hear the Azhan or call to prayer every day , five times a day. But i did not understood the full meaning of it as it is always given in Arabic. When it says Allah hu Akbar , i used to think it is something related to Emperor Akbar :)

Here is the English translation of the Call

God is Greatest.
I bear Witness that there is no God except the one God.
I bear Witness that Muhammad is the messenger of the God.
Come to Prayer.
Come to Success
Prayer is better than sleep*
God is Greatest.
There is no God except the one God.

* - only at Dawn Prayer.

My Favorite poem from our X Class Telugu subject. Thanks to my friend Prashant for helping me by heart this .

.

Tryst with Telugu

I still remember vividly the day during our engineering, my good friend Siva Rama Sarma asked me if i can say a full Telugu sentence with just one letter. I smiled at him and said the following.

( feather of a crow cannot be on a dog ). I dont remember how i know this, but this was floating during my school days.

He gave a surprise look at me. Probably he did not expect this response. Then he said the following.

( Mr. Nani, my oil is my oil and your oil is your oil , i did not say that my oil is your oil ).

I agreed promptly that this is better.
